Using his star power to bring attention to a dire situation, Ben Affleck met with the U.S. Senate Foreign Relations Committee in the Capitol on Wednesday (December 19) to urge a push for aid to the Democratic Republic of the Congo.
The 40-year-old actor suited up for photos with committee chairman John Kerry and other members as he pled for the U.S. to help the war-torn nation. He previously founded the Eastern Congo Initiative, which organizes relief efforts in the country, providing public and private funding to "support the communities and citizens of the eastern Congo, providing local organizations and leaders with the necessary resources to heal and sustain their communities."
A well-known democrat, the "Argo" star also
reached across the aisle. Earlier in the afternoon he tweeted, "Thank
you @HASCRepublicans [House Armed Services Committee Republicans] for
the opportunity to speak this morning about the crisis in #DRC. We can
& should help immediately."
