Starting its first weekend of expanded play, "Zero Dark Thirty" is on track to take the top spot at the box office for January 11-13, 2013.
The Academy Award nominated Jessica Chastain fronted film about the hunt for terrorist Osama bin Laden garnered a $9.6 million Friday and is on track for a $25.5 million weekend haul.
Landing in the second spot is the mob flick "Gangster Squad." The Village Roadshow/Warner Bros film starring Ryan Gosling and Emma Stone cashed in at $6.6 million on Friday.
Rounding out the top five at the box office in earmarked earnings are the Tyler Perry comedy "A Haunted House" ($17.5 million) in third, followed by the Leonardo DiCaprio led "Django Unchained" ($11 million) in fourth and the musical "Les Miserables" ($9.5 million) in fifth.
