“And the Oscar goes to…” is one of the most exciting phrases in the film industry, and this year there’s some serious competition among the Academy Awards nominees.
Seth MacFarlane and Emma Stone announced the Oscar hopefuls live from the Samuel Goldwyn Theater in Beverly Hills this morning (January 10), during which both the oldest nominee (Emmanuelle Riva- Best Actress “Amour”) and youngest nominee (Quvenzhané Wallis- Best Actress “Beasts of the Southern Wild”) in Academy Awards history were named.
Additionally, Jennifer Lawrence scored a Best Actress nod for “Silver Linings Playbook,” and she’ll compete against Jessica Chastain (“Zero Dark Thirty”) and Naomi Watts (“The Impossible”).
As for the gents, Bradley Cooper, Daniel Day-Lewis, Hugh Jackman, Joaquin Phoenix, and Denzel Washington are all in the running for Best Actor.
Best Picture hopefuls include “Amour,” “Life of PI,” “Argo,” “Lincoln,” “Beasts of the Southern Wild,” “Silver Linings Playbook,” “Django Unchained,” “Zero Dark Thirty,” and “Les Miserables.”
Surprisingly, Leonardo DiCaprio was shut out of the Best Supporting Actor club despite his critically-acclaimed work in “Django Unchained.”
