Breaking the advance ticket sales record for a Christmas Day release, "Les Miserables" leapt atop the specialty holiday box office on Tuesday, December 25, 2012.
Starring Anne Hathaway, Russell Crowe and Hugh Jackman, the big screen adaptation of the Broadway musical is expected to take in approximately $17.5 million on its first day in theaters.
Coming in at number two with an estimated $11.2 million in earnings looks to be the Quentin Tarantino directed, Leonardo DiCaprio fronted action thriller "Django Unchained."
Rounding out the Christmas box office in estimated earnings were previous frontrunner "The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey" in third ($9 million), the newly released comedy "Parental Guidance" in fourth ($5.5 million), and the Tom Cruise led crime/thriller "Jack Reacher" ($4.5 million) in fifth.
